This morning we packed up the bus and said goodbye to Eden. We were definitely sad to say goodbye to our amazing apartments and cliffside views, but we’re also very excited for Bermagui. This is where we’re going to get to swim with the seals in the wild and maybe even see a whale! Woohoo! Speaking of wildlife, we stopped at Pambula Beach and found some more wild kangaroos just chilling in the park! They were so incredibly cute! They were definitely bigger than the ones we saw last week, but still nowhere near as large as the Big Reds would be out in the Outback. Lisa and I are still hoping to see some of those when we go out to Uluru next weekend (wow, can’t believe how fast everything is flying by). We only had some bread and celery for them, and they definitely did not like the celery, but they would eat the bread. The cutest is always when they grab it in their little paws and then nibble on it. Still can’t believe how gentle the wild kangaroos are, they’re so friendly! There was one bigger kangaroo there that stood up on its hind legs and looked pretty impressive; I can’t imagine how intimidating a Big Red must be when they stand on their hind legs. When Sharon finally managed to drag us away from the roos, we found a giant trampoline-like bouncy thing to play on, so we bounced on that for a bit before Sharon made us get off and get on the bus.
I took a little bit of footage of the kangaroos which you can find below. They're mostly just standing around for the beginning, but at 0:36 I got some of them hopping which is pretty cool! Enjoy!
We were on to the actual town of Pambula for some morning tea, but the café they normally stop at was closed, much to Sharon’s disappointment, so we went to a little bakery instead. I got a cinnamon donut and an iced chocolate. When drinks like coffee or hot chocolate are “iced” over here, it actually means they’ve got actual ice cream scoops in it. You would never find an iced coffee with ice in it, so they’re extra desserty, and you eat it with a spoon. It’s very good and very fun! I was disappointed by the baker’s lack of lamingtons, however. What kind of Aussie bakery doesn’t have lamingtons? We had a few minutes to walk around the town, and I went into a very cool shop I think mom would have liked. It had cute clothes and lots of pretty scarves. The lady in there was really cool, and she taught us some more Aussie slang.
From there we continued on to Bermagui, driving through the larger town called Merimbula on the way. It look really neat, I wish we could have stopped there for a bit. It was right on the bay and looked like it had some awesome shops and restaurants there. We arrived in Bermagui around one in the afternoon, and it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s definitely smaller than Eden, but it’s practically right on the beach, with little hills around it. It was such a beautiful day out that we decided to get our bathing suits (cossies as they call them here) on, so we could try to go to the beach and swim if it was still nice. First we went to the wharf to get some fish n’ chips, because Bermagui is famous for them. The wharf was very pretty and relaxing, and the fish n’ chips were actually amazing! I wasn’t expecting to like them very much since I don’t like fish, but they were so good! When we were all full, Lew dropped us off at the beach, which was completely empty. The sand was so soft, the sun was shining, and the waves were gentle. Veronica, Shea, Mariah and I decided we wanted to get in so we ran into the water to find it was freezing! We refused to give up though, but made the mistake of slowly going in, rather than just dunking from the first. Eventually our body got used to the cold (or maybe was just numb enough not to feel anything) that we were able to swim around with becoming ice cubes. Mariah never got past waist height, but the rest of us had a lot of fun diving and swimming around, and playing around with Veronica’s underwater camera. We laid on the beach for a while after that since it was so pretty out, which was when some local guys looking to fish came out onto the beach. They looked at us like we were crazy, with sweaters and jackets on, while we were in our bathing suits and towels. It was a good 63 degrees out, so I don’t think it was too bad, but they laughed at us.

We had the night off so we went to the pub for dinner. After we had all finished our dinners, Veronica looks down at her plate and goes, “Oh, look, a snail!” We all turn confused and she was 100% right. A real live actual snail was crawling along the rim of her salad plate. Her look of surprise turned to horror when she realized it was her own plate she was staring at, and we all burst out laughing. It was the funniest thing, this little snail crawling along the rim of the plate. The waitress came over, horrified, but we were all laughing so hard she couldn’t help but laugh too. We got free drinks out of it, and Veronica picked up the snail and moved it across the road into the grass. It also got us talking to the waitress, named Ally, who was 22 and just recently moved back to her childhood town from Melbourne. She was really nice, and adorable. After dinner no one was really in the pub, so we just headed back there and hung out in the room.
