Hello all! This morning we had a lovely group breakfast cooked by Sharon and Julianna (pancakes, Australian bacon, and fruit). It was very yummy, and their apartment is right on the cliffs so the view was absolutely gorgeous. After breakfast we had about an hour to ourselves before we needed to be on the bus. I finally caught up on my blog, and talked to dad for a little bit. Then we were off to the Eden Killer Whale Museum, where the skeleton of Old Tom, one of the Killers who helped bring in the whales, can be found. It was pretty cool, I never knew Killer Whales were so long. They also had the jaw bone of a blue whale, and it was ginormous! It would be terrifying to come face to face to one of those. The jaw bone alone was over the size of a king size bed. There was also a cool story on the wall about a man who fell off the boat and was accidently swallowed by a whale when he came too close to where the whale was eating its food. Apparently when they killed the whale and got it to shore, they heard what sounded like kicking from inside, and when they opened it up there was a man, unconscious, but alive, inside. He survived, but he was nearly blind, strangely pale, and had white hair for the rest of his life from the digestive juices. Weird. There wasn’t much in the museum besides that, though Sharon did make us sit and watch a 20 minute long “movie” but all it was was really choppy video of whale tails hitting the water, with some strange 80s spa music and no voice over. So boring.
From there it was down to the town’s cemetery on the beach, which was cool because all the graves face the ocean. It looked very peaceful there, and we also got to walk down along the beach, which was very pretty.

We then had the rest of the afternoon free to walk around and do what we wanted, so we started by heading down to the wharf for some fish and chips. The people there were very nice in there, and gave us extra chips. Woohooo! We ate out on a picnic bench because it was such a lovely day out, and even though some seagulls tried to bully Sian into giving them some food, we chased them off and were able to enjoy our meal in peace. We walked down the wharf where we found two men who work on tug boats to talk to. I was incredibly shocked at some of the things he had to say, as they were things that, even if someone believed it (though it was all incredibly ignorant), would probably never ever in a million years say in public, let alone to complete strangers. Some of the crazier things included: the States never should have killed Saddam Hussein because “that race” needs a dictator and poor people should have to have a hysterectomy or vasectomy at 16 so they can’t “breed any more scum”. Totally crazy, and I was definitely offended, as was the rest of our group. We tried making some non-confrontational reasons for why we don't agree, but the guy obviously wasn't very into it so we just gave up and walked away. I was especially surprised because they'd been bashing Tony Abbott only minutes before, but then still said some supremely ignorant things; I wasn't sure what things they agreed with him on then, and what they didn't, but I didn't think to ask until after so I'm still not sure, The younger man with him seemed uncomfortable with the whole conversation, so hopefully things are changing over here with the next generation. It's just so sad to see such a great and friendly country be so incredibly ignorant and horrible when it comes to certain things such as race and class. After our conversation, we continued walking down the wharf, still not believing what we'd heard, and just sat on the water for a bit. We'd heard sometimes whales come into the bay, so we were on the lookout, but we couldn't find any. There was a huge pelican hanging out above us that we didn't see at first, and we looked up and THERE IT WAS. We took some pictures and then ran away.
Next we headed up the hillside into actual town to have a look around. There wasn't too much, we had a look in a cool little story with yummy smelling soaps and cool tie dye clothing. From there we went to a place called Sprouts, where we got some fruit juice. It was okay, but I got apple, lemon, ginger and celery and it ended up being way too sour. So even though I had a sour face on the whole time I was drinking it, it was still pretty good. After that we decided to walk back to our apartments, which included going up two very steep hills, but we made it eventually! Rani was there to greet us, but she wouldn't drop the ball so we couldn't play with her. We lounged around for a bit before having to head to Sharon's to read the play Tonight We Anchor in Two Fold Bay. It had never been published, but takes place in Eden, and now I see why it wasn't published. It made no sense, was stupid, incredibly long, and poorly written. Sharon seemed to like it though, so we all got parts and had to read the entire thing. Ugh! It took forever, but I could see the sun set from the window so that was nice at least.
We then made burgers for dinner before Lew took us into town to go to the pub. We were hoping to get to talk to some locals, but there was nobody there, so Lew took us back home again. Some of the girls got super drunk on wine in the room which was hilarious. I was told very drunkenly that I have the best eyebrow shape they'd ever seen. Thanks girls....Lisa and I split a cider that was actually really good, but that was it for us! Tomorrow we're off to our final destination, Bermagui! Can't believe this trip is almost over, it feels like we only just set out!
